Modern Broker Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Modern Broker, Inc. ("Modern Broker," "we," "us") collects, uses and shares information. It covers our website at modernbroker.com and our internal bookkeeping app, Modern Broker Bookkeeping, which connects to QuickBooks Online. Modern Broker is a real estate team based in San Luis Obispo, California, and operates under The Real Brokerage.

Information we collect

  • Information you give us. This includes your name, email, phone number, and the details you send through our forms, emails or calls, such as property interests or questions. It also includes what agents share when applying to join our team, such as licensing and production details.
  • Information collected automatically. When you visit our site, we and our service providers may collect your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, and the referring site, using cookies and similar tools.
  • Information from others. This includes property listing data from MLS and IDX feeds, information from The Real Brokerage, and referrals from clients and partners.

How we use information

  • To answer your inquiries and provide real estate services
  • To evaluate and support agents who work with or join our team
  • To run, secure and improve our website
  • To send updates you have asked for. You can opt out at any time.
  • To meet our legal, licensing and brokerage recordkeeping obligations

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only:

  • with The Real Brokerage, our brokerage, as needed for transactions and compliance
  • with service providers that work for us, such as website hosting, email, analytics and AI tools, who may use it only to provide those services
  • with other parties to a transaction you are involved in, as needed to complete it
  • when required by law, or to protect our rights or the safety of others
  • in connection with a merger, sale or reorganization of our business

QuickBooks data (Modern Broker Bookkeeping)

Modern Broker Bookkeeping is a private tool. It connects only to QuickBooks Online companies owned by Modern Broker and its principals, and it is not offered to the public.

  • What it accesses: accounting data in those companies, including accounts, transactions, vendors, customers and financial reports.
  • Why: to categorize transactions, help reconcile accounts and prepare financial reports for the company owner.
  • How it is processed: on our own computer, and through Anthropic's Claude AI service, which acts as our tool to perform these tasks.
  • Sharing: we do not sell QuickBooks data. We do not share it with third parties for their own use, and we do not use it for advertising. We do not store copies of it beyond what a report or task needs.
  • Access tokens: QuickBooks access tokens are kept only on our own device, with restricted access, and are never shared.
  • Disconnecting: a connected company can be disconnected at any time from the Apps section of QuickBooks Online. When it is, our access ends and we delete its stored tokens.

Cookies and Do Not Track

We use cookies to keep the site working and to understand how it is used. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some features may stop working. Our site does not currently respond to browser "Do Not Track" signals.

How long we keep information

We keep information as long as we need it for the purposes above. That includes the transaction and recordkeeping periods California real estate law requires. After that, we delete it or make it anonymous.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us to access, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to stop sending you marketing messages. Contact us using the details below. California residents may also ask what personal information, if any, we shared with third parties for their direct marketing in the past year.

Children

Our site and services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes

We may update this policy. We will post the new version here with a new effective date.
